Call Landlord and Tenant Board Immediately

 

You are strongly encouraged to call immediately the Landlord and Tenant Board and ask them to refuse the Pinedale proposal for additional “capital expenditures”, 3% rent increase.

The more people call the stronger will our objection be heard.

You may ask officers of the board questions regarding the formal process and other concerns on your mind.

From our own experience the officers of the Board are open minded, friendly and helpful.

In particular you may ask about the Pinedale suggestion of paying 3% additional rent increase from January 1, 2025.

From what we have learned, the 3% rent increase is not due by January 1, 2026. It does not have to be paid by tenants until the formal decision of LTB, issued after hearings or thereafter. In other words, the 3% increase is due from the date of approval

In contrary to deceptive Pinedale suggestion,

there are no retroactive payments.

Of course this is an important money matter so you may assure yourself about the payment requirement during your contact with the Board.

Please note that if we start paying it may work against us. It will suggest that we agree with the Pinedale grab.

The whole process is formal, as much as it may, so we are well guarded by the law.
